Suspect quickly arrested in Amherstburg arson

 

The Windsor Police Service has arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with an arson incident at a business in Amherstburg.

 

On September 4, 2024, just before midnight, officers responded to a report of an active fire in the 30 block of Sandwich St. S. Upon arrival, they discovered thick smoke billowing from the building.

 

A male was found lying on the ground near the scene. Officers safely escorted him to a safe location until EMS arrived.

 

Amherstburg Fire & Rescue attended and extinguished the fire.

 

Through investigation, officers determined that the male, who attempted to flee the scene, was responsible for setting the fire. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. The suspect has since been arrested and charged with arson.

 

No one else was injured as a result of the incident.
