Announcing the 2025 Windsor-Essex Polar Plunge
WINDSOR POLICE NEWS RELEASE
Announcing the 2025 Windsor-Essex Polar Plunge
Earlier today, Windsor Police and local law enforcement agencies gathered at St. Clair College to announce the 11th annual Windsor-Essex Polar Plunge, which will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025. Students braved the outdoor “Slip n’ Slide” in a cold but joyful kickoff to fundraising festivities in support of Special Olympics Ontario.
Windsor-Essex Polar Plunge 2025 will take place at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre, where brave participants will plunge into an ice-cold outdoor pool outside the front doors of the facility. The fundraising goal this year is $80,000, and organizers are preparing for over 200 courageous participants to take the plunge. Every plunger will be eligible to receive great incentive items, and St. Clair College is offering a $500 bursary to any current Grade 12 participant attending the college in September 2025.
Since the inaugural event in 2015, over 1,200 plungers have participated in the Windsor-Essex Polar Plunge. All funds raised directly support the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
“This is our 11th year doing the plunge – and over that time, we have raised over half a million dollars for Special Olympics,” said Windsor Police Chief Jason Bellaire. “The money raised through Polar Plunge helps people with intellectual disabilities discover new skills and abilities through the power of sport. These athletes find confidence, fulfilment, and joy – on the playing field and in life.”
"The 11th annual Polar Plunge, one of the coldest events of the year, is also the one which most dramatically demonstrates the tremendous warmth of our community," observed St. Clair College President Michael Silvaggi. "For years, through this campaign, Windsor-Essex has been one of Canada's most generous supporters of the Special Olympics on a per capita basis. And St. Clair, in conjunction with the Windsor Police Service and other local law enforcement and first responders, has been proud to be a long-time Polar Plunge sponsor and kick off participant."
