Windsor Police to celebrate Police Week

The Windsor Police Service is pleased to invite you to join us in celebration of Police Week from May 12 to 18, 2024.

This week-long event recognizes the work of frontline police officers, 9-1-1 communicators, professional civilian and auxiliary members, special constables, and all those who help keep Windsor and Amherstburg safe. This year’s provincial Police Week theme is “Join Policing: Keep Ontario Safe,” which emphasizes the importance of public service and law enforcement as a career.

To mark the occasion, Windsor Police and other law enforcement partners will host educational and equipment displays at Devonshire Mall on the following dates:

  • May 16 and 17, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • May 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Members of the community are encouraged to drop by to meet with officers, watch demonstrations, learn crime prevention tips and safety practices, and find out more about careers in policing.

We’ll kick off the celebration with a ceremony near the Devonshire Mall Food Court at 10 a.m. on May 16. Drop by to hear from Windsor Police Chief Jason Bellaire and meet our “Chief for a Day” Abel Thomas, a Grade 6 student at Christ the King French Immersion Catholic Elementary School. Chief Abel was selected from among dozens of elementary school students who wrote letters explaining why they wanted to be Chief for a Day.

“I encourage everyone to come out and celebrate Police Week with us,” said Chief Bellaire. “We are excited to meet with residents, help them better understand what we do as a police service, respond to their questions, and come together as a community.”
